Kesaia Boletakanakadavu made it her goal to win the sub-junior girls 400 metres final yesterday.

The Kadavu Provincial Secondary School student scooped the school’s first gold medal during the 2018 Coca-Cola Games at the ANZ Stadium in Suva.

The 13-year -ld from Nakasaleka, Kadavu recalled her preparations as tough and tiring.

A week before the Fiji Finals, her school was partially destroyed by Tropical Cyclone Keni.

Boletakanakadavu who was at school at that time said it was a frightening experience and to be at the Games and win gold is overwhelming.

“I have mixed feelings right now. Just last week we were hit by Cyclone Keni and it was one of the scariest moments in my life. Today I am here winning my school’s first gold medal, I’m truly happy,” Boletakanakadavu said.

“Training was very hard and I had to make a lot of sacrifices.

“I was calm and focused because I had one thing on my mind, to get a medal.

“This win is for everyone back at home in Kadavu especially for those who were affected by Cyclone Keni.”

Saivora Nareba of Jasper Williams High settled for silver while Salome Vakatawabai of Namosi Secondary got bronze.
