Afghan Envoy Presents Credentials

President Major-General (Ret’d) Jioji Konusi Konrote received the creden­tials of the non-resident Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan to Fiji, Wa­hidullah Waissi, at Borron House yesterday.

Ambassador Waissi presented his creden­tials after inspecting a guard of honour by officers of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces.

Prior to his appointment, Ambassador Waissi was director-general for economic co-operation at the Ministry of Foreign Af­fairs in Kabul, Afghanistan (2012 to 2016).

He previously taught economic develop­ment at the University of Afghanistan and writes on development, regional, geo-eco­nomics and socio-development issues.

Ambassador Waissi studied in the United States of America and holds a Master’s De­gree in Development Economics from the Center for Development Economics of Wil­liams College. He was one of the first Af­ghan students at the CDE.

Ambassador Waissi is a visiting scholar of the Central Asia-Caucasus Institute of the SAIS/Johns Hopkins University in Wash­ington DC, a fellowship programme for rais­ing regional leaders in government, com­merce, and academia from Central Asia, Mongolia, the Caucasus and Afghanistan (CAMCA).

The new non-resident Ambassador is based in Canberra, Australia, is married and has two daughters and a son.
