The outstanding recipients of the Force Commander’s Award were MFO lifeguards, Fiji Navy Leading Seaman Eparama Rokoyaya and 3FIR Infantryman Private Setareki Vulalima. They were duty lifeguards at the MFO Herbs Beach on the shore of the Red Sea at South Camp where they managed to rescue two fellow peacekeepers from drowning.

In his citation, the Force Commander stated that LS Rokoyaya and Pte Vulalima courageously displayed their capability during the rescue.

“Through their training as life guards, they have displayed true comradeship and dedication to duty to overcome all odds and rescue two members of the Multinational Forces and Observers,” he said.

MFO medal recipients at the parade included members of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces, Fiji Corrections Services and the Fiji Police Force who have completed their 12 months tour of duty with the MFO.
