Overtime Pay Expansion

Civil Service reforms boost all officers on pay band F, announces A-G.
As part of the ongoing and comprehensive civil service reforms being undertaken by the Government, the Attorney-General and Minister of Civil Service Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum is pleased to announce that all officers on pay Band F are eligible for overtime pay as of April 18, 2018.
All non-teacher civil servants on Band F will now be compensated for all future hours worked overtime.
Overtime backpay will also be honoured for all of Fiji’s essential health workers on Band F, starting from the time they began work under their new contracts.
“This expansion of overtime pay is another positive outcome of this Government’s ongoing civil service reforms and it is yet another way that, through bold and thoughtful change we have made the civil service a more attractive, merit-based career path that competes with the private sector to attract and retain top talent,” Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said. “We would especially like to thank the many essential workers in the healthcare space who put in extra hours without knowing this announcement was coming; the back pay you will receive is recognition of your hard work and dedication.”
Previously, overtime compensation was only made available to nurses on Band F and other non-teacher civil servants on pay Band E.
This new and more inclusive policy is a part of the Civil Service Reform Management Unit’s extensive review of the terms and conditions of civil servants’ work to create a more equitable workplace where extra hours and work are properly compensated.
