Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama has assured the people of Tailevu that the Tailevu North Technical College will remain open.

He was responding to concerns that the college would close were raised during the talanoa session at Nauluvatu Village in Nakelo yesterday.

The technical college was established on January 18, 2018.  It was discussed that after 13 weeks of school, students had only done theory work but no practicals because they were waiting on  some confirmation documents from the relevant authorities.

Responding to the concern, the Permanent Secretary for iTaukei Affairs, Naipote Katonitabua, said other technical colleges in the 14 provinces were  facing similar problems.

He said there was still some work to be done including the audit reports, which was the reason the colleges were not running well.

He said funds were available, however, requests made to the Ministry of Education for the release of funds proved unsuccessful.

“Nadave Training Centre and other schools under the Fiji High Education Commission are also facing the same problem. Discussions are underway regarding this,” Mr Katonitabua said.”

However, the people were pleased when the PM confirmed that the college will remain open.
