Lomaiviti Party For Eileen

The Lomaiviti Provincial Council hosted a tea party for Eileen Cikamatana in Levuka yesterday.
Council delegates took time off from their strategic development workshop in Nasova to honour one of their special athletes.
Weightlifter Cikamatana won Fiji’s only gold medal in the 90kg category at the Commonwealth Games in the Gold Coast, Australia earlier this month.
After 16 years, the Taviya, Ovalau native became the first Fijian woman to win gold at the four-yearly event.
The other gold medalists are Nacanieli Takayawa (judo-2002 Manchester), Sani Fine (boxing-1982 Brisbane) and Mataika Tuicakau (athletics-1950 Auckland).
Roko Tui Lomaiviti Penijamini Velititokaduadua said it was fitting and timely to honour Cikamatana for her achievement.
“She deserved to be honoured for what she’s achieved for all of us,”Velititokaduadua said.
“All the delegates from Lomaiviti are in Levuka for the workshop and it was fitting we do something for her before she returns overseas next week.
“We gave her some monetary gifts, sang Isa Lomai for one of our very own.”
Lomaiviti Provincial Council chairman Joji Qaranivalu applauded Cikamatana for her golden achievement and wished her well for the future.
Also present were Eileen’s parents Makitalena and Savenaca.
