Rape Accused Duo Fronts In Court

Two men charged with the alleged assault and rape of a 24-year-old woman in Lami last year appeared before High Court Judge Justice Riyaz Hamza yesterday.
Molitoni Taro Vunilagi, 26, and Josua Bueta, 18, allegedly committed the act on December 14, 2017, following a drinking party. Vunilagi is in remand and his bail application will be heard in court on May 1, 2018.
Bueta appeared on bail.
The two men pleaded not guilty to two counts of rape and one count of assault causing actual bodily harm on April 11, 2018, after their files were consolidated.
Legal Aid Commission lawyer Litiana Ratidara appeared for both men while State lawyer, Shirley Tivao, appeared for the prosecution.
Ms Tivao requested for seven days to serve the proposed agreed facts.
Vunilagi was further remanded in custody while Bueta’s bail was extended. Their case will be called again before Justice Thushara Rajasinghe on May 18, 2018.
