The Fiji Police Force has confirmed that it has not received any complaints of sexual misconduct involving male staff of the World Food Programme (WFP) in Suva.

Fiji Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said yesterday that according to an article published by overseas media this was an internal investigation.

Ms Naisoro said she was not aware if a report on the matter had been lodged with Police.

According to News Hub New Zealand and Stuff News the United Nations (UN) was investigating allegations of sexual misconduct of senior staffers based in Suva, Fiji.

News Hub further stated that a number of allegations were made about two staff members last week.

A UN World Food Programme (WFP) spokesperson confirmed this stating that, “As a result, WFP has decided to investigate formally.”

The spokesperson said UNWFP would not be commenting further at this stage.

However, according to Stuff News a UN worker who spoke on condition of anonymity said the allegations against the two staff members surfaced last week and both men had been suspended pending a formal investigation.

The allegations are understood to have been made by three female staff members at the WFP in Suva, an office consisting of about 15 people.

It cannot be determined if the men have been suspended or not and further details on the matter could not be determined.

The World Food Programme is the food aid arm of the United Nations and one of several UN operations in Fiji.

It provides food assistance during emergencies and supports economic and social development.
