Contractors Clear Landslide To Jetty Entrance

The Naboutini Civil Contractors has managed to clear away a landslide that had blocked the entrance to the Vunisea Jetty.
Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) media officer Zafiya Shamim said their contractor was given till 2pm yesterday to clear the landslide.
“The ship Lomaiviti Princess 1 had docked but has left for Kavala Jetty. It will return to Vunisea to load and unload passengers. This will give us time to clear the landslide,” she said.
Roko Tui Kadavu Kitione Raibevu confirmed the landslide and said it was blocking the entrance to the jetty.
He said passengers bound for Suva would not be affected.
Goundar Shipping Limited managing director George Goundar said their vessel, the Lomaiviti Princess 1, had dropped off 400 passengers at the Vunisea Jetty and had gone to Kavala to drop off other passengers.
“We have to come back to Vunisea and hopefully the landslide will be cleared to off load vehicles and cargo and pick passengers to Suva,” he said.
He said he was running at a loss, but his main concern was the safety of his passengers.
