‘Scoring On Fiji Time’

Fiji Airways Fijian 7s speed merchant Alasio Naduva described his last minute try during the Singapore 7s final against Australia as ‘scoring on Fiji time.’
The Aussies were leading 22-21 in the last 30 seconds before Naduva raced away to score the winner which was converted by Amenoni Nasilasila.
“First of all thanks and praises be to God because all this would not have been possible without him,”Naduva said.
“Secondly we did not panic. We were playing according to Fiji time and not any other time.”
Dubbed by the overseas media as ‘Fijian flash’ he said they were composed and under no pressure at all in the final stages.
“We knew it could be done and we just stuck in there, remembered what we do at training and the opportunities will come.”
Katonibau: Win Crucial
Teammate Isake Katonibau said before departing for Singapore they knew winning was very important if they are to beat South Africa for first place in the World Sevens Series standings.
However, he said they would not be resting on their laurels but would be more focused now on the two remaining tournaments in London, Paris.
“I guess we were playing on Fiji time and we came out victorious in the end,” Katonibau said.
“The victory has set the benchmark for the remaining tournaments so it will be a very interesting tussle in the top three. Whoever plays their cards right will win the title.”
He said coach Gareth Baber would be working hard in terms of preparing the team for the remaining tournaments of the series.
