Fiji Police To Help PNG During The APEC Meeting

The Fiji Police Force will assist their Papua New Guinea counterparts with security for the Asia-Pacific Economic Co-operation (APEC) summit in November.
This was confirmed by the Commissioner of Police, Brigadier-General Sitiveni Qiliho from Papua New Guinea on Wednesday.
The Commissioner of Police is with the Minister for National Security and Defence Ratu Inoke Kubuabola attending a meeting of Defence ministers and Police chiefs from the Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG) countries in Papua New Guinea’s East New Britain Province. Also, with Ratu Inoke are senior RFMF officials and Police officials including the Ministry of Defence.
At the meeting, they were briefed on the proposed establishment of a regional Police academy for the MSG countries.
The MSG countries are also considering deploying Police to PNG to assist with security for the APEC summit.
MSG countries include Fiji, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, Vanuatu and the Front de Libération Nationale Kanak et Socialiste (FLNKS), a pro-independence movement from New Caledonia.
