Heroic Firefighters Awarded For Bravery

Seven brave firefighters were recognised and commended for their heroic efforts in rescuing two pregnant women in Ba, amid the havoc wreaked by Tropical Cyclone Keni.
The seven firefighters were awarded bravery recognition certificates from Minister for Local Government Housing, Environment, Infrastructure and Transport Parveen Kumar Bala at the National Fire Authority (NFA) station in Ba yesterday.
“Your efforts to help others will not go unrecognised and unrewarded. In the first instance, helping those in need is its own reward and recognition,” Mr Bala said.
He said yesterday’s event presented an opportunity to officially recognise the bravery of the seven NFA personnel who received awards.
“I am hoping these awards will inspire and incentivise them and other sraff members of the NFA to continue with their good work for the good of all Fijians.”
The awards were given to sub officer Simione Qiolevu, leading firefighter Kinijoji Cakobau, leading firefighter Rashid Ali, qualified firefighter Inoke Raleba, firefighter Kalaveti Vatuinaruku, firefighter Josaia Vakalala and firefighter Josefa Waqabaca.
“We salute the heroes from the Ba NFA for their bravery, resourcefulness, ability to execute their rescue plan fully and for successfully putting their training into practice.”
He said their action helped in the miracle of life, especially for the two pregnant women they rescued, who successfully delivered their babies.
