Alipate Banikoro, 26, is grateful that his 65-year-old mother is alive to witness his success.

The Fiji National University student graduated with a Higher Education Diploma in Secondary Education at the FMF Gymnasium last Friday.

While speaking to the Fiji Sun, the Namosi lad said: “I can’t really express how happy I am right now,” he said.

Mr Banikoro’s mother is 65 years old.

“She was the only one who struggled for my education. She farms to make sure that I am in school,” he said.

“I am the youngest and am the first one in my family to have reached this level of studies.

“How I wish my father was alive to see me with this blue gown I am wearing.”

Mr Banikoro said his father died when he was 10 years old.

“I told my mum that this was one of the happiest days because she was here to witness my success and the fruit of her struggles,” he said.

“My mother’s prayers have been answered.”
