More fake news has surfaced on social networking sites.

The latest making rounds right now is that a special prayer room is being constructed for the Reserve Bank of Fiji Governor Ariff Ali, at the Bank.

Apart from being an outright lie, this is once again being perpetrated with intent to cause hatred against the Muslim community by targeting institutions which are headed by people of the Islamic faith.

This is outrageous. What is more outrageous is that gullible people are falling for it?

When this edition went to press the fake news on an equally fake forum had been shared 21 times, had over 180 reactions and close to 170 comments.

On the same forum, a fake flag submission is shown to portray that Fiji’s flag could be changed to reflect the Muslim population.

This is such a shame.

With RBF, anyone could have made a simple call to verify the information, but those commenting  on it made no effort to do so.

In the case of our intention to change our flag that was shelved for Fiji to focus on Tropical Cyclone Winston rehabilitation.

And all submissions had been published widely and the one which is currently making rounds on social media wasn’t even an entry.

But those who are posting such fake news from fake profiles are not interested in the truth. They are merely interested in their own agenda which is to instil hatred against one community.

The onus is on us to ensure we are not deceived by such sick fakes.

Fijians are better than this.

To allow some using  fake profiles to spew their hate will hurt everyone in the long run.
