O’Connor Visits Maritime Health Facilities

Fijians in the maritime islands are taking advantage of the free health screenings, dental extractions and medical advice this week.
This follows a visit by a delegation from the Ministry of Health and Medical Services to communities in Yadua, Kioa, Cikobia, Udu, Rabi, Qamea, Kioa and Savusavu.
Led by the Assistant Minister for Health and Medical Services, Alexander O’Connor, the team of medical staff members will inspect the health centres and nursing stations in these maritime islands and look at areas of improvement in relation to resource development.
There will also be an inspection of medicines by the Fiji Pharmaceutical and Biomedical Services (FPBS) team.
The visit includes awareness sessions conducted on Rheumatic Heart Disease (RHD) and public awareness programs relative to the prevention of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) like (heart diseases and stroke) including advocacy on women’s and children’s health along with the prevention of Communicable Diseases.
The team left for Yadua on May 7, after completing a week-long tour to the health facilities in the Northern Division last week. They are expected to return to Suva tomorrow. Edited by Ranoba Baoa
