Dr Josefa Koroivueta said the project had reached 719 communities in the 120 districts across the 14 provinces in Fiji and Rotuma.

Government’s Rights, Empowerment And Cohesion (REACH) programme has provided assistance to 18,701 Fijians on legal aid services, women and human rights amongst others.

The REACH programme has also raised awareness to 14,389 Fijians to date out of which 6733 are women, 6736 men and 920 children.

Ministry for Social Welfare, Children and Poverty Alleviation Permanent Secretary Dr Josefa Koroivueta said the project had reached 719 communities in the 120 districts across the 14 provinces in Fiji and Rotuma.

“REACH will be the solution to bridge the challenges and with the integrated approach that REACH is moving into, it provides a more effective and efficient service delivery approach during the outreach sessions,” Dr Koroivueta said.

He was speaking at a REACH Capacity Building Workshop at the Centre for Appropriate Technology and Development (CATD) in Nadave.

Dr Koroivueta said some Fijians weren’t aware of the services that were made available to them by the Government because most of them are restricted with geography and physical challenges and the high transportation cost.

“The REACH Programme has been the ambit of Government, working with key government agencies to provide socio – economic and legal opportunities to all Fijians despite their remote locations and distance.”

The workshop was focused on strengthening the participants capacity to be more gender inclusive, reflecting on opportunities for improvement and developing qualitative indicators that will accommodate the plights of the vulnerable groups during service delivery.

Participants at the workshop included representatives from the Ministry of Rural and Maritime Development, Provincial Councils, Fiji Police Force, Fiji Association for the Deaf and Ministry of Justice.

The workshop ends today.
