Fiji Under-20 Wins Third Position After Tonga Win

The final round of the 2018 Oceania U20s Championships saw Tonga take on the Vodafone Fiji U20s and the Junior Wallabies up against New Zealand in the Championship final at the Bond University Rugby Club last Friday.
The Vodafone Fiji U20s team outstretched an injury crippled Tongan side 53-0 to take the third position in the 2018 Oceania Rugby U20s Championship.
“Coming into the last game we knew what we wanted especially after coming out of two losses against Australia and New Zealand and we wanted to end on a high and we gave it our all and we put it up there on the score board,” said Vodafone Fiji U20 Captain Raikabula Momoedonu.
Fiji took an early lead in the seventh minute courtesy of Nabetelevu Turaganivalu. In a match that saw possession change hands often and Tonga were not able to capitalise on their chances.
“I am proud of the way the boys worked together as a unit and also how we hammered down our set pieces, so credit to the boys,” Momoedonu said.
Head Coach Koli Sewabu said the last match went as the team had planned.
“We started exactly how we wanted to and we finished really well,” Sewabu said.
“We came here with the intention to expose the boys to a high level of competition, have a look at some of the areas that we need to work on as we prepare for the Junior World Tournament.”
