The pools and match schedule have been announced for the ninth round of the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series 2018 in Twickenham Stadium in London on 2-3 June.

As the race for the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series title continues there are only 37 points between the top four teams, with this year’s series proving to be the most competitive yet.

After a dramatic final at the HSBC Singapore Sevens where the Fiji Airways 7s team claimed their third-consecutive victory on the series, they also overtook South Africa to top the overall standings.

Gareth Baber’s side will be looking to continue their winning streak in Pool A when Fiji take on Argentina in their opening game of the day with last year’s HSBC London Sevens champions Scotland facing New Zealand in their tournament opener.

“We have played all the teams in our pool several times, in this year’s HSBC World 7s Series and they all play a different style of 7s rugby,” Baber said. “We will plan around that with our analyst and the Fiji Airways 7s Assistant Coaches and we will have a look at what they have to offer on the field but essentially as we identify them, they might be doing the same thing with our team and our style of play.”

The team rounded off their preparations for the week yesterday with a hard training run following the first few days of recovery and Fiji Airways 7s Captain Jerry Tuwai says that the team is now focusing on London and Paris, which is the last two tournaments for the 2018-2018 HSBC World 7s Series.

“This week, we started off with recovery, and ended it off with a hard training run yesterday,” Tuwai said.

“I am happy with the way the boys responded to that as they continue to show their determination and strength towards the training programs set out by the coaches.”

Tuwai added that the bond between the players have become stronger as they look towards the last two HSBC World 7s Series tournaments and the Rugby World Cup 7s.

“The bond between the boys has become stronger and we are always supportive of each other, because we lose and we win together and it always brings us together. As you have seen in most of our games we win at the last minute and that is only achieved through the brotherhood and support in the team.

“We ask all our fans to please keep us in their prayers and continue to support the team for the remaining tournaments and the RWC 7s.”

The London 7s will be played on 2-3 June at the Twickenham Stadium in London.
