The Fijian soldiers in the Golan Heights are back in their areas of responsibility.

Director of Peace Support Operations Lieutenant-Colonel Pacolo Luveni confirmed this to the Fiji Sun yesterday.

After the firing of rockets into the Golan Heights from Iranian revolutionary guard element in Syria, he said the Fijian contingent leadership was closely monitoring the situation.

“All preemptive and precautionary measures are being taken by the contingent and the United Nations (UN) to ensure all UN troops at the Golan Heights are safe.”

He said the soldiers had spent only a few hours in the bomb shelters on Wednesday and were back at work.

According to Lieutenant-Colonel Luveni, they went to the bomb shelters as a precautionary measure.

He said the Commanding Officer at the Golan Heights Lieutenant-Colonel Sakeasi Rabitu Baka was briefing them on what was happening out there.

Meanwhile, the Jerusalem Post has reported that Israel struck 50 Iranian targets in Syria after 20 rockets were fired towards Israel’s front defensive line in the Golan Heights by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps’s Quds Force early on Thursday morning, the IDF announced.
