Questions for Biman Prasad
Premila Singh, Suva
I watched the Parliamentary proceedings with much interest knowing it was May 14.
While I applaud the acting Prime Minister for calling a spade a spade and reminding the country what Sitiveni Rabuka did, I could not believe NFP leader Biman Prasad did not once mention Rabuka’s name or condemn him for the coup of May 14, 1987.
Instead he did mention Prime Minister Bainimarama, but not once did he call out Rabuka for what he did. Why?
On that note can Mr Prasad come out and tell the people whether he is ready to form Government with Rabuka if it means Mr Prasad getting a seat in Parliament?
Will he compromise everything his leaders stood for?
Shameful.
Relooking at our history
Simran Prasad, Suva
When I watched Mr Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum talk about the atrocities on the girmitiyas and how they sought refuge in villages and the relationship that existed between them and the natives, it became apparent that our school curriculum needs to be changed to include these facts.
A lot of information is missing from our school curriculum.
Why only Brij Lal?
Senaca Nabutu, Davuilevu
What about Anirudh Singh, Biman Prasad? Why talk about only Brij Lal?
Kudos to Ministry of Fisheries
Savenaca Vakaliwaliwa, Suva
Last week I highlighted in this column the frustration and anger of fishermen from Vanuabalavu because of the inconsistent operation or function of the Malaka Ice Plant (FS 9/5).
I am told that the Minister of Fisheries sent two officers who repaired the ice machine and now it is up and running, bringing joy to all the fishermen on Vanuabalavu.
Simeli Bose’s letter (Fiji Sun 11/5) comes to mind, where he said: “What is truly remarkable is the speed in which Government officials are responding in assessing, approving and delivering outcomes, very fast indeed.”
Kudos Minister of Fisheries, Permanent Secretary and all your staff!
Such excellent response will surely motivate the people of Vanuabalavu to vote for our current FijiFirst Government in the coming general election to continue its prompt service delivery to the people.
Flowers for mum
Shah Shariff, Savusavu
Arvind Mani of Nadi, your Mother’s Day letter is the best that I have ever read in both dailies.
I read it more than 10 times.
Very touching indeed!
Very well written!
Looking forward to more, my brother.
Despite denials
Dharmendra Kumar, Suva
What I fear as a voter is my vote going to another party because of a political merger.
I will vote for a party that has the capability to lead the country and not compromise values for political survival.
A compromise is an agreement whereby both parties get what neither of them wanted.
Despite denials it’s so obvious that two major political parties are merging.
Tailevu Rugby
Tomasi Boginiso, Nasinu
Congratulations Tailevu for the unbeaten run and hopefully we are back on track in regaining the glories we used to achieve.
I believe being relegated was a lesson and what better way to recover by starting from the bottom.
Three wins in a row is a good start and keeping the momentum will not only boost the team, but the supporters and the vanua of Tailevu.
To all players, officials and management you have our prayers and support.
Toso Tailevu toso!
Traffic light
Narayan Reddy, Lautoka
Some years ago a drive-on roundabout was built near Punjas in Lautoka as a temporary measure to control traffic since the traffic light maintenance cost was high.
Pedestrians and drivers slowly adapted to the change.
Recently, the number of vehicles on our roads has increased and most drivers are not giving way.
One can call them selfish or young drivers, but on a daily basis one can either hear drivers swearing at each other or see minor accidents happen.
The particular street is one of the busiest and to make things simple I request the authority responsible to bring back the traffic light in that place.
