Labasa Man To Spend Two Months In Custody

A 33-year-old man from Labasa, who is charged with serious assault, was sentenced to an immediate custodial term of two months.

Nemani Rasiga appeared before Magistrate Jeremaia Savou at the Labasa Magistrates Court yesterday.

While sentencing Rasiga, the Magistrate said the accused indicated his willingness to take a plea.

The court heard that on September 13, 2017 two Police officers responded to a call at Shop N Save Supermarket in Labasa. Upon arrival they saw a few drunken men outside the supermarket who were swearing. When they tried to arrest one of them the accused tried to stop them.

Magistrate Savou said Rasiga was a first offender and was married with five children.

Through his lawyers he said all he was trying to do was to take his uncle home. He has been given 28 days to appeal.
