It is important to think of the vanua, traditional leadership, language and traditional protocols with the hope that iTaukei identity is not lost.

iTaukei Affairs Board deputy chief executive officer Josefa Toganivalu made the observation to delegates present during the Cakaudrove Provincial Council meeting at Yaroi Village in Savusavu on Thursday.

“It is bad luck for those people who are slowly losing their identity and we Fijians are lucky to have the knowledge of everything about us,” Mr Toganivalu said.

“It is important that we talk about traditional leadership and passing the knowledge to our children, who will one day replace us.”

Mr Toganivalu said for the people of the province to prosper there was a need to work together.

“I want to tell the people of Cakaudrove that to have a prosperous Fiji there is a need for prosperous vanua and for a prosperous vanua there is a need for good traditional leadership,” he said.

“If there is good traditional leadership then there will be blessings.”
