Land Transport Authority (LTA) staff members in Labasa are now participating in a zumba fitness session at the Sukanivalu Barracks in their bid to tackle health issues.

LTA Northern acting regional manager Sumal Kumar said the exercise, facilitated by the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF), was one of the intervention measures they came up with to counter health issues that were detected during the recent medical screening of staff members.

“This exercise is a good way of enticing our officers to develop and take interest in their health and wellbeing,” Mr Kumar said.

“We are fortunate to have a board and management that have pledged their support to this programme in order to protect, promote and enhance the wellbeing of all LTA officers.

“We will continue in these efforts because we feel that health and wellness directly relates to our performance level as individuals and departments.

“Since we will be hosting the annual LTA sports day in September, we have to pave the way for the other two regions in promoting healthy living and wellness in the workplace.”

Mr Kumar said there were 20 staff members who took part in the zumba exercise. The last time LTA in the North hosted its annual sports day was in 2015.
