Having a brother who plays for the opposing team was something that Suva’s Bruce Hughes had to get used too.

The Hughes brother are known to many Rewa fans but it was in 2017 that the older of the two, Setareki decided to join Suva.

“After we lost our mother in 2015, my brother and father were the two that looked after me and my sister. I always look up him for guidance,” Bruce said.

“We played football together ever since we were in primary school and we share the love for it.

“Despite being in two different teams, he is still my best friend and we do everything together.”

The Hughes brothers have paternal links in Samoa but consider themselves from Navunievu, Bua natives.

The Suva midfielder added playing football requires a lot of sacrifices and fitness

“I have been in the sport for over 15 years, and one thing I have learnt through the years is in order to achieve your dream, one need to be physically fit and work hard as things do not come easy.”

Bruce is married to Alumita Soroiuwaqa.
