Makereta Kulavere recounted last night how she gave her elder brother a glass of water before he died.

She could not believe that it was her last duty to him as a sister.

Ms Kulavere was emotional as she described her last moments with Police Constable Kitione Kulavere, 38.

The late Mr Kulavere of Nasova died at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital in Suva last Friday after a freak accident.

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said he had been trying to fetch breadfruit from a tree when he was hit by a stone which ricocheted off a branch.

He was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to the injuries.

“His last words, was when he asked me to give him water to drink.

“He thought that he will survive but inside I knew that he will not survive. He did not say anything after he drank water and rested in peace,” Mrs Kulavere said.

The late Kulavere of Wainivula, Wainibuka in Tailevu was the second eldest of eight siblings.

He attended his primary at Dakuivuna Village School and secondary at Naiyala High school and Savusavu Secondary school.

He graduated from Methodist Lay Training Centre in 2007 and joined Fiji Police Band.

“My brother supported our parents in paying our fees when we were studying and he gave us everything when we were in need,” she said. She said she missed him.
