Man Allegedly Assaults Wife Over Missing $10

A man alleged to have assaulted his wife following a dispute over his missing $10 was bailed in the Suva Magistrates Court yesterday.

The accused Josateki Toga, 28, appeared before Magistrate Asanga Bodaragama charged with one count of assault causing actual bodily harm.

It is alleged that on May 19, 2018 at about 8pm the accused returned home drunk and started looking for his money and kept on asking his wife about it.

His wife denied taking the money which led to a heated argument between them.

The accused is alleged to have locked his wife with the children inside the bedroom and punched her and banged her head on a storage box.

The complainant allegedly managed to free herself and went to her sister’s place.

Magistrate Bodaragama released the accused on $300 bail bond and ordered him not to offend or interfere with Prosecution witnesses.

A domestic violence restraining order was also issued against the accused with non-molestation orders.

The case has been adjourned to June 20, 2018 for his plea to be taken.
