New Footpath Improves Pedestrians Safety

The Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) has constructed new footpaths along Fletcher Road to improve pedestrian safety.

FRA chief executive officer Jona­than Moore said this was challeng­ing because there were four high voltage cables underground, which was a risk factor during the works.

However, the project was complet­ed within three months.

“Works included the design of footpath, driveways and drainage to comply with relevant standards, excavation and removal of exist­ing footpath and driveway and con­struction of new kerb and chan­nel.”

He said the new and improved footpath will benefit school stu­dents with a defined path away from traffic and improve access for the residents living in Vatuwaqa.

This project is under the Footpath Renewals Contract- Central Divi­sion.

Meanwhile, the FRA is continu­ing to scope for other suitable sites in the Central, Western and North­ern footpaths which will soon be tendered for construction.
