Investigations are still underway in relations to the death of a miner at the Vatukoula Gold Mine.

Ministry of Lands and Mineral Resources permanent secretary Malakai Finau said the department was carrying out its investigations and it should be completed soon.

The incident occurred on May 2, when Avinesh Ram, 38, died in one of the mine’s underground shafts.

Mr Ram allegedly fell into a sinkhole, but the company said the incident happened at R1 Underground Shaft.

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro earlier confirmed that the incident happened at about 10.30am on May 2 at level 18/03 at the Vatukoula Gold Mine.

Mr Ram was a team leader at the mine and a resident of Toko, Tavua.
