FASANOC To Resolve Weightlifting Wrangle

Weightlifting Fiji has requested an independent delegation from FASANOC to meet with athletes and officials from the Levuka Weightlifting Club who had signed a boycott statement.The aim is to discuss the specifics and facts of the matter.
This was confirmed by Weightlifting Fiji president Atma Maharaj after their emergency meeting at the FASANOC office in Suva yesterday. The meeting was closed to the media.
He also confirmed that WF executive board has acknowledge the petition letter from the Levuka Weightlifting Club athletes and officials.
The club was not happy when local coaches Joe Vueti and Peni Tawai were dropped. And later the recruitment of an overseas coach.
“Also, the email and media statements by Eileen Cikamatana, regarding her withdrawal from the Oceania Championships, Junior World Championships and World Senior Championships this year.
“We respect the decision of the athletes and officials. WF is taking a conciliatory approach.
“We will not make any further comments and will provide further update of the outcomes,” Maharaj said.
