Lautoka driver charged with causing death

A driver in Lautoka was granted bail yesterday by the Lautoka Magistrates Court.
Pravin Sewak, appearing before Magistrate Bandula Gunaratne, is charged with one count of occasioning death by dangerous driving.
It is alleged that the 54-year-old accused was the driver of the twin cab that bumped and rolled over seven-year-old Saint Thomas Primary School student, Josua Boseiwaqa, at around 3pm along the Natabua Road on May 25.
Defence lawyer Jotishna Nair of P & N Lawyers submitted her client’s bail application, which was then approved by Magistrate Gunaratne.
However, Police prosecutor Constable Theodore Leo urged the court if Sewak could be released with strict bail conditions.
“One of which should be a stop departure, considering the nature and seriousness of the alleged offence and also the age of the victim,” Constable Leo said in court.
In the course of the proceedings Sewak was allowed bail provided that he had a surety for his bail.
The matter has been adjourned to June 30 for mention.
