The Bottega Fijian Fashion Festival 2018 is not only showing the creme de la creme of the Fijian designers.

They are also showcasing Fiji’s finest models.

They include top global model Phillipa Steele, veteran 90s top model Sandhya Nand, top current Fijian models, fresh new faces and international social media stars.

Fili Tapa and Kepa Gaison are two such stars, extremely popular not just for their physical attributes but also for their respective lifestyle philosophies

When New Zealand born and bred Fili Tapa is not dazzling his Instagram fans with his lifestyle he is a software developer.

Tapa said: “Yes that’s right, outside of the fashion scene I’m a geek! I am also in training to be a professional donut connoisseur.”

Looking at Tapa’s physique it is hard to imagine donuts were in the making of it!

This is Tapas’s third time on a runway, having walked for the NZ based Pacific Fusion and then in Sydney at Pacific Runway, Australia’s most prestigious platform for designers, models and fashion personnel of Pacific origin.

About Kepa Gaison

Kepa Gaison is a personal trainer and off runway radiates a calmness that inspires. On runway he is an irational powerhouse, which is what compelled Fijian designer Aisea Konrote to ask him to model for him again, having modelled for him last year in Sydney at Pacific Runway.

Fijian Fashion Festival was recommended to Tapa by Mez, the curator of the very popular Coconut Wireless and he eagerly embraced the chance to champion Pacific design. “We as Pacific people have a lot to offer in design capability and it is important to support that on public platforms,” says Tapa.

Tapa says that Pacific people have always been creative with design, for example in carvings, “where the patterns are quite intricate and tell our stories in in easy to comprehend but beautiful ways and I really like how this is shown in fashion.”

One of the great things about Pacific designers is how they use their traditional influences in their modern designs.

Kepa models for a designer in Hawaii who integrates culture in to the designs: “I think it is important to show how culture in intertwined with the fashion industry.

“There is a lot more meaning behind the designs and this sets Pacific designers apart.”

For both men walking for FFF is an honour, because of close island connections (Tapa is Tongan, Suva reminds Gaison of Hawaii) but also because they are both aware of what the Fijian fashion industry is doing and creating and they are both excited to be a part of that evolution.

Attendees of the Fijian Fashion Festival will see Tapa walking for emerging designer Alipate Sowane and Gaison walking for established designer Aisea Konrote.

Their appearances will ensure maximum exposure for these designers and maximum fun for the audience.
