Police probe death of fishing crew member

Police are investigating the death of the crew member of a fishing vessel in Fijian waters.
It is understood to be a 26-year-old Indonesian national.
Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said it was alleged the man had fallen overboard.
“At high seas, a 26-year-old Indonesian national, while on board the fishing vessel TUNAGO 61 as a crew, is alleged to have fallen overboard,” Ms Naisoro said.
“The matter was then reported to Police last Friday by the company’s operation manager of Zhong Fei Shipping Agency.”
The fishing vessel was built in 2001 and is currently flying the flag of Vanuatu.
The shipping agent, Zhong Fei Shipping Agencies Limited, is an exporter from Fiji; the company sells frozen fish and related products to the Fijian market.
Ms Naisoro said Police investigations are ongoing. Questions sent to Fiji Navy were unanswered. Attempts to get comments from Zhong Fei Shipping Agencies Limited were unsuccessful.
