Raj on Raid at Commission: No One is Above the Law

The Fiji Human Rights and Anti-Discrimination Commission director Ashwin Raj has stated that no one is above the law.
His comments come after the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) officers raided the commission office yesterday.
The exercise was confirmed by FICAC public relations officer Bettylyn Matakitoga.
When emailed last night Mr Raj said: “As public office holders, we must be held accountable at all times and subject ourselves to scrutiny.
“No one is above the law. The Human Rights and Anti-Discrimination Commission will facilitate the preliminary independent investigations conducted by FICAC without any obstruction to ascertain if there is any veracity to the allegations levelled against the Director.”
It is understood that the officers reached the Commission office at around 2.40pm and stayed around until 5pm.
While FICAC has not confirmed what the raid was in connection to, Ms Matakitoga earlier confirmed that FICAC had received a complaint against Mr Raj.
The Commission does not have a board right now since the term of the previous board expired in May.
