The Cakaudrove rugby team are going to give their all today against Tailevu in the Vodafone Vanua Championship thriller at Ratu Ganilau Park, Savusavu.

Speaking to SUNsports yesterday, Cakaudrove head coach Rayne Simpson said they are ready for the challenge.

“The team has been preparing well,” he said.

“We’re managing some injuries but the boys are doing very well. Tailevu is currently number two and we are in number three so we will do our best.

“We take each game as it comes and unfortunately we have lost two games in this competition but we are improving as we go along.”

Simpson said they have high regard for Tailevu who was once a rugby powerhouse in the country.

They have produced top players like Inoke Male, Sunia Sevu, Meli Tamanitoakula, Jone Kaila, Rupeni Caucaunibuca, Apenisa Sassen, Epeli Ruivadra and the list goes on.

Last year, Tailevu fought from behind to draw 16-all with Cakaudrove at home.

“Tailevu is an experienced team and that will not deter the spirit of the boys. We will just do our best tomorrow.

“The boys are currently camping in the village of Korotasere in the tikina o Vaturova. The villagers are really looking after us very well.”

The match gets underway at 1pm with the Under-20 clash before the main game kicks-off at 3pm.
