14,000 Fijians Aided Through Initiative
More than 14,000 people in Nadi affected by recent tropical cyclones have been assisted through the Homes-CARE assistance over the past three days.
Permanent Secretary for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation, Dr Jiosefa Koroivueta said 200 staff members of the ministry had been working round the clock since last Thursday to process applications from cyclone-affected people in the Jet Set Town and district.
“We have been based here since Thursday where we managed to assist 5500 people,” Dr Koroivueta said.
“On Friday we assisted 5400 people and today (yesterday) we assisted 4000 people. We have another spillover of 4500 here in Nadi, which we aim to complete within two weeks.
“Our team has been working hard to make sure that all applicants are assisted and at the moment there is a spillover from Lautoka, which is 6000 people, whom we will try to complete within two weeks.
“On the ground are staff from Fijian Elections Office, Vodafone Fiji and the Fiji Police Force,” Dr Koroivueta said.
The Homes-CARE assistance is an initiative from Government to assist those people affected by the recent Tropical Cyclone Keni and Tropical Cyclone Josie in the Western Division.
