Labasa Branch Staff Members Remember Life of Ratu Sukuna

Staff members of the iTaukei Land Trust Board (TLTB) in Labasa celebrated the life of the late Ratu Sir Lala Sukuna on Friday.
During the celebration staff members sang songs, recited poems, did vernacular reading, storytelling and performed a drama based on the life of the late Ratu Sir Lala Sukuna. Ratu Sir Lala Sukuna was a chief, scholar, soldier, and statesman. He has been regarded as the forerunner of the post-independence leadership of the country.
It was also an emotional day as they remembered a courageous and outstanding son of Fiji whose acts and policy-making were in line with TLTB core functions, especially in the establishment of Native Land Trust Board, now known as TLTB.
Organiser, Sanaila Bukasasa said TLTB staff around the country were doing the same.
“We prepared for this event for a week and this was the general manager’s endorsement so budget was set aside for this,” he said.
“We always celebrate Ratu Sir Lala Sukuna Day, but this year we are celebrating it in a big way.”
Mr Bukasasa said the staff members all played their parts well.
“The commitment of the staff especially our manager and assistant manager is exceptional and we hope to continue to celebrate this way every year to remember an outstanding man,” he said.
The Labasa branch has 33 staff members.
