Work on converting Seaqaqa into a town has begun, a senior district officer has confirmed to the Fiji Sun.

Seaqaqa District Officer Aminiasi Niumataiwalu spoke after a recent visit with the Minister for Agriculture Inia Seruiratu to Dreketi.

“The Government has allocated $250,000 (for the upgrade),” Mr Niumataiwalu said.

“The iTaukei Land Trust Board has done their work and now the Department of Town and Country Planning’s office is working on the other project implementation phases.

“Development lease has been issued to town and country planning who will further work on the tender and engagement of consultant to undertake the environment impact assessment.

“We have frequent meetings with the Department Town and Country Planning Office and other stakeholders to make sure that we address areas which need to be improved.”

Once the town will be developed people of Seaqaqa will not need to travel to Labasa Town or Savusavu Town, he said.
