35km Of Road Drains Fixed: Reddy

Thirty five kilometres of road drains have been fixed in the farming settlement of Nabitu in Kavanagasau, Sigatoka.
While visiting the community on Tuesday the Minister for Waterways, Mahendra Reddy, said it took them six weeks to fix the drainage system at the cost of $150,000.
The settlement has more than 300 residents most of whom are vegetable farmers.
Advisory councillor Rajesh Singh said for the last five decades they had always wanted the drains fixed.
“This is a vegetable farming community located next to the Sigatoka River. Most of the times when it rains our farms gets flooded because of the poor drainage,” he said.
“We want to thank Government for fixing our drains and I believe one of the major problems has been solved. We depend on our vegetable farms to feed our families and our source of income too, now with the drainage fixed it will help in water flow during rainy days.” .
Mr Reddy will visit other settlements in Sigatoka Valley today.
