The Vodafone Futsal League competition for the central division is being revived after 10 years.

The launching was held at the Fiji Football Association headquarters in Suva yesterday.

Vodafone Fiji Limited chief operating officer Ronald Prasad was pleased to have the futsal league competition revived.

“The revival of the league at district level comes after 10 years,” Prasad said.

“There have been a few futsal competitions played in the last few years and it is great to see Fiji FA put a proper framework, starting with the Central Zone.

“I am certain that this will generate a lot of interest and Vodafone is always happy to support events that create positive ripple effects branching out from our sponsorships.

“We have enthusiast football players that are ready to take on the challenge in this fast-paced 5 A-side football game.

“Not only does the competition provide opportunity for the teams to engage in their passion for the sport, but in fact, it is a great medium for the players to build on their football skills and find an avenue to stay fit, while enjoying what they do.

“Futsal is as entertaining for the players as much as it is to spectators. It is fast paced, fun and can be called the sevens of football.

Meanwhile, Fiji FA president Rajesh Patel said they aim to select the best team from the league to represent the national side.

“It is indeed a great moment for Fiji FA to revive their futsal league competition and we had anticipated that we wanted to do it in a professional manner instead of bazaar type tournament,” Patel said.

“This will only enhance this code where we can select the best team to play for Fiji in future.

The futsal league started yesterday featuring Suva, Lami, Navua, Tailevi-Naitasiri, Rewa and  Northland Tailevu teams.
