‘I WILL NOT STEP DOWN AS LEADER’

Social Democratic Liberal Party Sitiveni Ligamamada Rabuka yesterday reassured party supporters that he would not step down from his position as Party Leader and as a candidate for this year’s election.
He was responding to the result of a Fiji Sun/Razor poll published last Saturday in which respondents were asked whether the SODELPA Leader should resign in light of the FICAC charge against him.
Sixty per cent of respondents said the SODELPA Leader should resign, 21 per cent said he shouldn’t and 19 per cent were unsure.
He faces a charge of providing false declaration of assets, income and liabilities to the Supervisor of Election on December 29, 2017.
According to the 2013 Fijian Constitution a person cannot be a candidate in a general election if he or she has been convicted for a crime where the maximum penalty is a prison term of 12 months or more.
