The Vodafone Hibiscus Event Group (Inc) aims to raise as much awareness as possible on the conservation of our environment.

Chairperson Hirdesh Prasad said the aim this year was to focus on the five R’s through the advocacy from the contestants.

They are: Refuse Reduce Reuse Repurpose Recycle.

“The environment weeps and we need to give it our attention,” Mr Prasad said.

“We rely on the environment for our necessities. So let us work together to save it.”

Mr Prasad added that there were environmental workshops aligned for them.

The organisation hopes to have 15 queen contestants, 12 kings, 10 teen queens, 10 princes and 10 princesses for the August festival.

So far they have 12 queen contestants, 12 kings and 10 teen contestants.

He also added that companies and clients are coming in to view contestant profiles for sponsorship. Some of their prizes were already sponsored and there was still room for more sponsorship, he said.

Interested sponsors can contact their office for the packages offered.

Mr Prasad said there are a lot of activities that the people would look forward to this year and there will be surprises as well.

“I believe in promoting our local talents. Fiji is blessed with talents. We believe in the blend of cultures. That’s what brings unity.

“Hibiscus is a time where individuals from all walks of life come together as one,”Mr Prasad said.

“This year, I wish to convey to the public an important message, it’s about our environment.”

The Vodafone Fiji Hibiscus Festival will be held on August 11 to August 18.
