Bau chief, Turaga Na Roko Tui Bau, Ratu Timothy Daniel, explained last night why he withdrew from the Vunivalu installation on Bau tomorrow.

Ratu Timothy said he was not going to be part of a ceremony that created division within the Tui Kaba clan.

“I’ve informed the TLFC chairman about my decision,” he said.

He said for the selection of the Vunivalu there were procedures to be followed.

He said such procedures were not followed in this instance.

In choosing a replacement the chiefly Tui Kaba clan will meet and choose a candidate who they all agree on. Once a name is confirmed they will inform the Vanua to prepare for the installation.

He said he wanted to clear his name and said he was not part of the selection and never will be on who should hold the chiefly position.

In a recent meeting in Bau last month he was invited to attend, but never called the meeting as alluded to in The Fiji Times report on May 21.

He said he would only be involved in the installation “when there is unity in the selection by the Tui Kaba clan”.
