Fijians Can Do It: Sorovaki

It has been proven time and time again that Fiji has the physical specimen of athletes.
These were the sentiments of National Rugby Development manager of the Fiji Rugby Union, Sale Sorovaki in an interview with the Fiji Super Rugby Secretariat.
“It is in our DNA and all they (local rugby players) need is to be exposed to a professional rugby environment,” the former Flying Fijians captain said.
With the upcoming Super Rugby match in Fiji less than 30 days away, many young and aspiring rugby players will be down at pitch side or glued to their screen to watch their stars play.
“Having these games in Fiji brings that dream to life for some kids and ignites that rugby flame in them,” he said.
Sorovaki said that Fiji’s domestic rugby competition from schools to provincial and then to elite national teams has been the pathway many local rugby players have taken to reach the top international rugby club competitions.
“Seta Tamanivalu and Manasa Mataele are two fine examples of players who were part of our pathway. They came through our schools’ programme and have made it into Super Rugby. They were given an opportunity and they took it,” he said.
Both these players have visited with their clubs (BNZ Crusaders and Gallagher Chiefs) to play a Super Rugby match over the last two years.
“It’s seeing these Super Rugby stars close up that is probably the biggest impact. To be able to go and watch the game would leave a lasting impression on fans.” Sorovaki added.
The Pulse Energy Highlanders will play the Gallagher Chiefs at home at the ANZ Stadium in Suva at 7.35pm on June 30.
Tickets for the game are available from the Fiji Sports Council office in Laucala Bay, Suva and from all Post Fiji outlets nationwide.
