Flashing or Rotating Lamp

Recently, Land Transport Authority has received many applications for the installation of Flashing or Rotating Lamps in vehicles.

As such, a revised Procedures Manual has been developed which states the process to be followed when making an application for Flashing and Warning Lamps.

It is to be noted that a Flashing or Rotating Warning Lamp is generally a dome shaped lamp, designed to be fitted to a vehicle and which when lit projects a flashing light clearly visible in normal daylight in all directions.

Flashing and rotating lamps come in different colours which depict the different purposes the lamp should be used for under the Vehicle Registration and Construction Regulations 2000.

The regulation demarcates the different colours as follows;

a) Blue & Red –  Police and Land Transport Authority Vehicles

b) Red –  Medical, emergency and fire vehicles

c) Amber –  Tow trucks, public utility vehicles and other vehicles approved by the Authority.

For the purpose of installation of flashing or rotating warning lamps, applicants are requested to adhere to the following guidelines;

1) A written application clearly stating the purpose or need for the installation of flashing or rotating warning lamps must be addressed to the CEO or the Authority.

2) Specifications for the proposed flashing or rotating lamp together with images must be included with the application.

3) Vehicle details should be included in the application.

4) An electrical wiring plan has to be included within the application for verification.

5) Mechanical fastening specifications and proposed installation plan has to be included in the application for verification.

The verification of the application would be done by a Standards & Engineering officer and based on the purpose and need the final decision would be made by the executive management of the Authority.
