A man who allegedly stabbed his wife to death has been released on bail by the High Court in Labasa after denying a charge of murder.

Strict bail conditions were imposed on Tevita Vuniwai by Justice Daniel Goundar.

Vuniwai earlier pleaded guilty.

He is alleged to have stabbed his wife Amelia Baletagici Tuima, a nursing student at Then India Sanmarga Ikya (TISI) Sangam College of Nursing in Labasa, on March 7, 2018.

He was represented by Legal Aid lawyer Vilisoni Tuicolo.

Justice Goundar told the accused that he was granted bail and was to make sure that he reported to the police station, did not interfere with witnesses and always attended his court cases.

Vuniwai was allowed to visit his son in Nausori, where his parents live, from June 8 to June 30, 2018.

He was to reside with his uncle in Labasa.

The two sureties were his father and uncle with a bond of $1000 each.

His case will be called next on August 24, 2018.
