Yoga Sessions Focus On NCDs, Battle Against Diabetes

The International Day of Yoga celebration this year will focus on non-communicable diseases, especially the battle against diabetes.

The Indian High Commissioner to Fiji, Vishvas Sapkal, during the yoga session at the My Suva Park in Nasese, in the capital city highlighted that the International Day of Yoga would be celebrated to fight against diabetes.

The theme for the celebration in Fiji is “Yoga to Fight Diabetes”.

Mr Sapkal said diabetes could be prevented and cured through various steps of Yoga, which would be taught by experts during the celebration on June 24 at My Suva Park.

The Indian High Commission is organising the celebration in Fijiand six other Pacific Island countries under its jurisdiction.

Mr Sapkal said the commission was conducting Yoga sessions every Saturday morning at My Suva Park starting at 7.30am.

“We were glad to see a lot of people turn up for the yoga session this morning, which is a build-up for the celebration,” Mr Sapkal said.

“This year yoga sessions are focusing on the fight against non-communicable diseases (NCDs), especially diabetes.

“Diabetes can be prevented and cured by following some specific yoga sessions.

“The celebration is in support of the Ministry of Health and Medical Services. “More than 60 people were present at the session today, including Member of Parliament, Alvick Maharaj. We invite all members of the public to attend the Yoga session, which is free, It is for their benefit and better health conditions.”
