Manu Samoa flanker Piula Fa’asalele says, with Tonga they are expecting them to play the fiery Pacific style of rugby at the ANZ Stadium, Suva on Saturday.

That is, he says, are quick rucks, strong tackles and running rugby.

The 30-year-old who plays for Toulouse in the French Top 14 competition said the Pacific Nations Cup is always about the battle of the Pacific Islands.

“We’ve taken the positives from the match against Fiji as we now prepare for Tonga,” he said.

“The PNC is a big competition for the islands as we want to see who the top Pacific team is. It was a physical game against Fiji and we were disappointed about the result as we chased them in the second half and almost caught up with them.”

Having represented Samoa for seven years, Fa’asalele said island rugby now has a lot of depth and many local players are getting overseas contracts.

“This is my third visit to Fiji, I can see that there is more depth and a lot of local players are coming through the system and representing their country. I believe Pacific rugby is now getting noticed around the world.”

The match kicks-off at 1pm.
