For the first time runners participating during the Olympic Day Run will be able to have access to the Mile Lapse Timing System.

FASANOC in collaboration with Suva Marathon have organised the 8km run for June 29 and will see runners from around the Suva area participating.

Suva Marathon Club president Gina Houng Lee said, this system would allow efficiency and instant collection of data specifically runners’ times.

Lee added the aim of the run is to support local runners and also a build-up towards the 2018 Suva Marathon on July 21.

“In terms of partnership we are keen because we do have a mix of people in the club that come out to run,” Lee said.

“We want to encourage people to move and this is a build-up for the major event which is the 2018 Suva Marathon.

“We are looking to this event as a training platform and series runners who will to be timed will be testing our Miles Lapse running timing system.

“This system will allow hundreds of runners to get their times instantly.”

Lee added that the series runners would be able to purchase the chips during the day of the run.

FASANOC vice-president Vanessa Kilner said this year the event would be more exciting and is urging the public to come out in numbers.

“It is a global event to get people more active and possibly learn a new sport and this year they will be having an official timing programme. FASANOC is again partnering with the Ministry of Youth and Sports and we have a month long.”

Registration will be at 6am and the run starts at 7am.
