Bi Plans Celebration With Friends, Family

Fatima Bi pans to celebrate Eid this year with her friends and family at her home in Raiwaqa.
The 74 year-old widow only has a son who lives with her family in Nadera. Ms Bi said the Fiji Muslim League had supported many families by giving rations every month.
“For this time around, the helpful members of Fiji Muslim League have given me ingredients to make Sawai, groceries as well as bath towels,” she said.
Ms Bi said during the Ramadan, Muslims do not eat or drink from sunrise to sunset. She said her faith and belief in Allah had helped her tackle all obstacles that came her way. Ms Bi lives alone in her home and survives on Government’s social welfare benefits and what the League gives her as ration.
Ms Bi also explained what Eid was and why is it important for Muslims.
“When we fast, we are seeking forgiveness from Allah, and those who observe this fasting are believed to be excused of all the wrongdoings in the past,” she said.
“The end of fasting at Ramadan marks Eid and I think we should all celebrate and rejoice together with our families and friends.
“Also, not only during Eid, but I think we should always be charitable and help those who are in need of support and care.”
Eid al-Fitr 2018 will begin tomorrow evening and ends on Friday evening.
