Auditors should be recognised as one of the key stakeholders of governance, they are the eyes on the ground and provide assurances to the company boards they represent.

Institute of Internal Auditors Fiji board chairman, Ilaitia Tuinamoala said the  annual conference at the InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort and Spa would concentrate mainly on the continuing change in the digital world.

“We are now challenged with the new technology,” Mr Tuinamoala said.

“We are moving from paper work to a no paper world at a very fast rate,” he said.

“There is a need to prepare the auditors in to the ever evolving world.”

Mr Tuinamoala said keynote speakers brought in from overseas would give the local internal auditors an idea on the digital world and whether Fiji was prepared for these.

“It is mainly about how we can control and monitor all these.

“There is an increase in fraud through cybercrime and we need to be well equipped to combat this.

“I think with a lot of universal standards that are coming in, we are lucky that Fiji has recognized that and we need to build platforms to shield these threats.

“We need to exempt ourselves and prepare as this is a global threat and we need to be with the times and not get left behind.

“I guess more training will help us build this shield against cybercrime.”
